Health Care Reform Act Impacts Pre-tax Plans
The new health care reform act that was signed into law in March 2010 will affect many aspects of health care coverage. Effective January 1, 2011, a prescription will be required to purchase over-the-counter (OTC) medicines when using funds from employer-sponsored benefit plans such as Flexible Spending Accounts (FSAs) and Health Reimbursement Arrangements (HRAs). In addition, effective January 1, 2013, a $2,500 cap will be placed on all medical/health care FSA plans; however this new regulation will have an impact on most 2012 plan renewals. Read more.
